SLA helps leaders address community development in a bewildering age. SLA recognizes the importance of civic engagement in an age where thriving communities will depend upon it. SLA has developed a formula for engaging citizens in formulating a vision for the future of their “place.” SLA provides facilitation services, keynote addresses on the impact of change on community, workshops and long range consulting services to assist in this vital area.

Around the eight points of the compass are the SLA steps for engaging citizens. The eight points provide not only guideposts but “handles” to grab onto in time when attention spans are stretched. With SLA’s assistance you will undertake all eight steps but remember that building better places is not a linear process but an organic, constant and ultimately rewarding one.

  • A community leader must in concert with others
  • Engage, Inspire, and Reach out to other leaders/followers
  • Frame the Discussion (the four P’s)
  • Facilitate the recording of the story of the community
  • Let the core values emerge
  • Establish the army of community patriots
  • Develop action steps
  • Implement, sustain and account for results
